About This Site
Every Dog Nutrition is written by Joanie Brattain, a retired school cafeteria cook who reads every label in the pet aisle. We publish reviews, comparisons, how-to guides and honest stories about everyday dog nutrition products: freeze-dried meal toppers, bone broth, salmon oil, probiotic chews and multivitamins. Everything here comes from one dog's bowl and the label on the bag. It is not veterinary advice, and we always suggest talking with your own vet before changing what your dog eats.

Feeding Safety
Nothing on this site is veterinary advice. Talk with your veterinarian before starting any supplement, topper or broth, and before changing your dog's food, especially if your dog is a puppy, is pregnant or nursing, is on medication, or has a health condition. Supplements are not meant to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.
Follow the label amount for your dog's weight and do not stack products without checking for overlap: many multivitamins already contain fish oil, and many toppers already contain probiotics. More is not better, and too much fish oil can upset a dog's stomach. Count toppers, chews and broth as part of your dog's daily food so you do not overfeed.
Freeze-dried raw toppers are raw meat. Wash your hands, bowls and counters after handling them, keep them away from small children and anyone with a weakened immune system, and reseal the bag. Never add onion, garlic, grapes, raisins, xylitol, chocolate or salty seasoning to anything your dog eats, and check that any human broth or stock you use is free of them. Serve broth warm, never hot.
Change food gradually over several days, store oils in the refrigerator once opened if the label says so, and keep every chew jar out of reach, because a dog who gets into a full jar can eat far more than a day's amount. If your dog vomits, has diarrhea that lasts, stops eating or seems unwell, stop the product and call your vet.
